Cambodian Investors Seek Justice Against YY Capital Chairman Over Alleged Fraud
(Phnom Penh) – Investors and shareholders of YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd., are urging Cambodia’s Ministry of Justice to take firm action against Chairman Yamada Taihei, following serious allegations of financial misconduct.
According to the complaints, Yamada, a Japanese national, is accused of misusing his position to embezzle funds, inflate property purchase prices, and divert millions of dollars for personal gain and that of his associates. Preliminary findings indicate that up to USD 4 million may have been misappropriated.
The allegations also point to a pattern of fraudulent business practices, including the creation of fictitious loan transactions totaling over USD 7 million, misuse of prominent Japanese company names to mislead investors, document forgery, and large-scale cash transfers through multiple shell companies. Some of the misappropriated funds are reported to have been moved to overseas accounts under the name of Yamada’s wife.
Victims claim that Yamada established shell companies across Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan, appointing nominees as formal representatives while personally controlling all financial operations.
In Cambodia, Yamada and his accomplices face charges in at least two criminal cases, and several assets and bank accounts have been frozen by court order. Investigations are reportedly ongoing in other countries, including Japan, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States, into alleged embezzlement, money laundering, and breach of trust.
Through letters to the Ministry of Justice, shareholders have called for thorough and transparent investigations, expressing concern about potential interference from influential individuals that could obstruct justice or compromise evidence.
The victims are urging Cambodian authorities to ensure that the rule of law prevails, that all responsible parties are held accountable, and that shareholders’ rights are fully protected.
